I’m Yeimy Walker, a Salvadoran‑Canadian author whose work lives at the crossroads of Latin American roots, the dogs (and one cat) who’ve shaped my life, and a lifelong love of sci‑fi, zombies, and history. I write across genres — from children’s picture books to memoir to sci‑fi/horror — but everything I create comes back to the same heartbeat: identity, survival, and the stories we carry with us.

 

What I Write

Sci‑Fi / Horror (as Y.K. Flores)

 

My current obsession — and the project I’m most proud of — is a sci‑fi/horror novel that has completely taken over my creative life. The characters feel so real to me that writing them is effortless, like I’m simply following them through the ruins, the danger, and the strange beauty of their world. My speculative work blends cosmic dread, archaeology, diaspora identity, and the quiet terror of uncovering something ancient that was never meant to be found.

My children’s books are rooted in immigration, family, resilience, and the dogs who’ve walked beside me. They’re warm, heartfelt stories inspired by real moments from my life — the kind of books I wish I had growing up, full of tenderness, courage, and belonging.

 

Memoir & Personal Writing (Substack)

 

On Substack, I write openly about immigration, grief, healing, and the messy, beautiful process of becoming. It’s where I let my guard down, where the personal and the reflective meet, and where I explore the stories behind the stories.

 

Why I Write

 

I write because I grew up between worlds — between countries, languages, histories — and stories were the one place where everything could coexist. I write because dogs (and one cat) have been my companions through every chapter of my life, and their loyalty, humor, and heartbreak keep finding their way onto the page. I write because sci‑fi and horror taught me that the unknown isn’t just frightening — it’s revealing. It shows us who we are.

 

Across every genre, I’m always chasing the same things:

• Emotion that feels lived‑in

• Characters who breathe

• Worlds shaped by history and memory

• A sense of wonder threaded with danger

 

Beyond the Page

 

When I’m not writing, I’m usually painting, reading, walking with a dog at my side, or falling down rabbit holes about ancient civilizations, science, medicine, or space. These obsessions always find their way back into my work — sometimes quietly, sometimes loudly.
